Tech SupportTesting Telephone Services

Testing Individual Lines:

  1. Check the Indicator lights.
    1. Power Light.
      1. If the light is off.
        1. Check connections of the power cable.
        2. Check power to the Outlet.
        3. Check all power strips and/or UPS units if being used.
    2. US, DS and Online Lights.
      1. If any of these lights are flashing, contact Service Electric Telephone Repair.
    3. A single Tel light is flashing with all phones on-hook.
      1. Remove plug from Line jack on the back of the Telephone Modem (MTA).
        1. If the Indicator light stops flashing, there is a short on the inside wiring.
          1. Contact a qualified electrician or your telephone system vendor to repair.
        2. If the indicator light keeps flashing, contact Service Electric Telephone Repair.
    4. All tel lights are flashing.
      1. The Telephone Modem (MTA) is activating the telephone service.
        • Only the telephone lines being provisioned will flash.
        1. This process can take several minutes.
        2. If the lines do not stop flashing, contact Service Electric Telephone Repair.
  2. Testing Tel port. MTA back with lables
    1. Remove the plug from line jack on the back of the Telephone Modem (MTA).
    2. Connect working corded telephone’s base cord directly into the line jack of the Telephone Modem (MTA).
      1. If Dial tone is present, test inbound and outbound calling.
        1. Reconnect Inside wiring and check for dial tone.
        2. If dial tone is not present on the inside wiring, contact your telephone system vendor or a qualified electrician.
      2. If dial tone is not present, contact Service Electric Telephone Repair.
